Students from High Plains Community Schools submitted one of the winning names in the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s fourth annual Name-A-Snowplow contest.

Motorists venturing out this winter in NDOT’s District 4 will have Snowcus Pocus to thank for clearing the roads. That name, submitted by High Plains students, was one of two winners for District 4.

The Name-A-Snowplow contest strives to bring awareness about winter weather preparedness and safety to Nebraska’s elementary and middle school students. This year, NDOT received more than 1,300 submissions from across the state, a new record for the contest.

NDOT visited the winning schools to congratulate the students, who had the chance to see the newly named snowplows and ask NDOT snow fighters questions about snow removal and plow operations.

NDOT operates more than 600 snowplows to ensure driver safety during winter weather. As winter approaches, drivers can view travel conditions and stay informed by tracking both the newly named snowplows and past winners in real time at 511.nebraska.gov.
